So, sold my Cherokee Sport this morning...discovered a few issues when a mechanic checked it, so it went for less than I'd hoped. All in all pretty decent though.
Here's the thing: I now have $3000 to spend on a new car. Only criteria is kind of cool and automatic for the wife. I am willing to fix almost anything if it stays in budget and I can do it quickly.
So why am I tempted by this...

I fucking want this. Does anyone want to help me fix it?

I would love to help out, but judging on the link, you're on the wrong coast. Check out MBWorld.org, I'm sure you can find someone local willing to help out in the DMV area. Good luck.

I saw a 1.8t Passat up there. Decent turbo fun with a Triptronic Auto so you can still pick your gears?

Wouldn't an older Mercedes be expensive to repair therefore not in budget. If the seller is listing it as a project car then I would not be interested. Plenty of cool shit for that scratch. Cruise cars.com as well.

Almost certainly super expensive. BUT IT IS SO COOL.
I just love it; if I had money I would probably do it. Such a damn cool car.

I found a few other 1.8t VWs...we'll see. No triptronics yet that I'm willing to work on, but I'm still looking. Plus, I drive the GTI and this will be the wife's car, so picking gears is not terribly important until I convince her to come to the dark side.
